So my latest client uses Lotus Notes for email / calendar rather than MS Outlook.
I had a client once that was on Notes, but they migrated to Outlook shortly after I started, so I didn’t need to get too into it.
Now, I’ve got no choice..so I’ve already found some annoying things / quick fixes which I wanted to track here, in case I have a future client using Notes..
1. File->Preferences is where a TON of settings are. The defaults are usually not ones I like… I have already changed the following:
Mail-> Mail->”When I delete a Calendar document…” changed to Remove without asking.
Mail->Calendar & To Do->Display->Notices-> (yes, there are that many submenus) Check “Remove meeting notices from my inbox…”
UnCheck “Don’t display meeting invitations in the Sent ..”
Mail->Calendar & To Do->Scheduling->Scheduling-> Check “Check for conflicts..”
Mail->Calendar & To Do->Alarms->Check “Display Alarm notifications”, and set the times
2. a real pain is that if a calendar item is deleted, it is not sent to the trash. It is gone. No recovery possible.
now that i have a laptop set up.. i find out that Nothing is available offline without again altering some settings..
To set your mail for local use
1. (Optional) Switch to a location where you want to work offline.
2. From the menu, choose File – Mobile – Edit Current Location.
3. Click the Mail tab.
4. In the “Mail file location” field, select Local instead of “on Server.”
5. Click “Save & Close.”
nope. it’s one or the other. at least with my current client, no offline access is available. If i’m not online, no access to email. silly!
more preferences:
file->preferences->basic notes client configuration->additional options
check “Mark documents read when opened in preview pane”
check “Use inline autocomplete in address bar”
– may need to scroll UP to see these
and of course that autocomplete doesn’t actually work, unless you have another option confirmed:
file->preferences->Contacts->
UNCHECK “Do Not automatically add names to the Recent Contacts view”
more preferences:
File->preferences->Spell Check->Instant Corrections->
check off all three – common errors like teh, capitalize first letter of sentence, and correct TWO initial CApitals
